My video installation, Mindgames has a  supporting role in the performance of  The Coppelia Project.  It will be projected, starting at 7:00,   before the performances as people are arriving, helping to set the tone for the evening.

Mindgames : the Collective
refers to a body of work that incorporates multiple media in service to a common concern, i.e. video, audio, photography, drawing, sculpture.

Mindgames, is the manifestation of the haunting self talk that follows each of us around, thoughts that chase us into unknown territories propelled by fear, that dog us until we finally take an action that we’ve dreaded, that we know we must take, try as we might to evade it.  The images embodied in the collective, Mindgames, represent the alter ego, the animus, the id.  They are the source of both the praising and the damning thoughts that dwell within our minds.

“What if I can’t do this?  What if I can’t?  What if this doesn’t happen?  It has to happen.  I am going to make this happen.  I am going to do this…. What if I can’t?  What if I can’t do this?”

Like cockroaches that skitter around and scurry away only to return when we let our guard down, these mental harassments lurk around the edges of our minds, playing with us at moments of weakness or fatigue.

Yet, these mental machinations hold the power to spur us on.
With determination we can marshal them as tools for transformation. I can do this.
I will do this.

We are both unwitting victim and resolute designer.
Mindgames, indeed.

It is because of the shape-shifting nature of our thoughts that Mindgames has evolved as a collective. At times conveyed through works on  paper, at times with video or digital imagery, and sometimes through sound, these varied disciplines attempt to visualize our thoughts.
